Summary

This study presents two rare cases of mood disorders with Koro symptoms. Koro-like states may be linked to depression and resolve with mood disorder recovery.

Background:

Koro syndrome, initially considered culture-bound to Southeast Asia, has been reported globally.
Koro-like states often occur secondary to primary psychiatric disorders.
The co-occurrence of Koro with depression is infrequently documented.

Purpose of the Study:

To report two cases of mood disorders presenting with Koro symptoms.
To explore the relationship between Koro and mood disorders, specifically depression and mania.
To investigate the recurrence patterns of Koro symptoms in relation to mood states.

Main Methods:

Case report of two patients with mood disorders exhibiting Koro symptoms.
Clinical observation of symptom recurrence during depressive and manic phases.
Literature review on Koro syndrome and its association with mood disorders.

Main Results:

Two cases of major depressive disorder presented with Koro symptoms.
Koro symptoms recurred during depressive episodes and resolved during manic phases.
Observed a potential link between Koro-like states and the depressive phase of mood disorders.
