  • The patient had been prescribed amoxicillin 500 mg every 8 hours for dental disease.
  • Cholestatic hepatitis was diagnosed.

Findings:

  • The patient developed cholestatic hepatitis following amoxicillin ingestion.
  • This presentation is atypical for amoxicillin, which is rarely associated with liver injury.
  • A literature review on amoxicillin-induced liver injury was conducted.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the potential for amoxicillin to cause liver injury, albeit rarely.
  • Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion for DILI, even with commonly prescribed drugs.
  • Further research into the mechanisms of rare DILI is warranted.
