Summary

A 13-year-old experienced ear pain and jaw stiffness after orthodontic treatment. An archwire was found to have penetrated deep jaw muscles, requiring careful medical evaluation for unusual symptoms.

Presenting symptoms: 7-day history of otalgia, pharyngitis, and trismus.
Absence of specific symptoms: no fever, dysphagia, or dyspnea.

Diagnostic procedure: Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT).
Key anatomical structures involved: pterygoid musculature.
Incidental finding: orthodontic archwire penetration.

Findings:

The CECT scan identified an orthodontic archwire.
The archwire was observed to have penetrated the pterygoid musculature.
The patient's symptoms correlated with the identified foreign body.
