[Multi-injection treatment using an insulin pen]

100 diabetics (50 women and 50 men) with a mean age of 36.8 years (range 17-61) were converted from a conventional insulin regimen to multiple injections of rapidly acting insulin. Metabolic control was evaluated after a mean observation period of 17 months (range 4-32). All patients were sent a questionnaire about the acceptability of the new insulin regimen and about their every day life. Metabolic control, as judged by reduction in HbA1, had improved in most patients. The questionnaire response rate was 79%. 95% of the respondents reported that the insulin pen had made their every day life easier and safer.
