Summary

Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) proved effective and useful in a real-world clinical setting for a Danish population. Further research is recommended for larger groups and diverse patient demographics.

Background:

Previous research supports the efficacy of Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) in experimental settings.
A need exists to evaluate CAMS in real-life clinical practice for effectiveness and feasibility.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of CAMS in a Danish clinical population.
To assess patient experiences and outcomes of CAMS treatment.

Main Methods:

A descriptive study involving 42 patients referred for suicidal ideation or attempts.
CAMS treatment administered, with qualitative and quantitative data collected pre- and post-treatment.
Assessment of five major suicidal markers and patient-reported treatment importance.

Main Results:

81% of patients completed CAMS treatment; 68% completed final evaluation.
74% of completers identified CAMS sessions as key to reducing suicidality.
Significant decreases observed in five suicidal markers; one patient attempted suicide, one died by suicide.

Conclusions:

CAMS demonstrated effectiveness and utility in a real-life clinical context.
Further studies with larger patient cohorts are warranted.
Additional research needed to determine CAMS applicability across diverse patient groups.
