Selective changes of retroelement expression in human prostate cancer

Retroelements are reactivated in prostate cancer, with specific human endogenous retrovirus-K (HERV-K) proviruses showing increased expression and decreased DNA methylation. This suggests a role for HERV-K in prostate carcinogenesis.
