Ulcerative cystitis associated with phenylbutazone administration in two horses

Phenylbutazone, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), may cause ulcerative cystitis and hematuria in horses. Discontinuing phenylbutazone and administering prostaglandins resolved these adverse effects.
