    Grape expressed sequence tags (ESTs) provide a valuable new resource for developing simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. These SSR markers are effective for grape genotyping and genetic mapping, aiding in understanding grape diversity.

  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification and analysis of polymorphism and heterozygosity in selected Vitis cultivars.
  • Main Results:

    • Identified 6,447 EST-SSR sequences from over 215,000 grape ESTs.
    • 1,037 EST-SSRs yielded successful primer designs, with 145 validated by PCR.
    • Polymorphism and heterozygosity analyses revealed marker utility in differentiating V. vinifera and V. rotundifolia cultivars.
