External ventricular drain infection: improved technique can reduce infection rates

Frequent sampling of external ventricular drains (EVDs) did not increase central nervous system (CNS) infection rates in a research group compared to clinical practice. Experienced neurosurgeons using aseptic techniques can safely sample EVDs.
