We investigated how polarization and spin angular momentum (SAM) evolve in periodically rocking superlattices (PRS). Unlike crystals, PRS show unique polarization trajectories and oscillating SAM, with potential applications in optical control.
Area of Science:
- Optics and Photonics
- Condensed Matter Physics
- Materials Science
Background:
- Superlattices offer unique optical properties.
- Understanding light-matter interactions in novel materials is crucial.
- Spin angular momentum (SAM) plays a key role in advanced optics.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the evolution of polarization and SAM in periodically rocking superlattices (PRS).
- To compare the behavior in PRS with that in conventional birefringent crystals.
- To explore potential applications in optical control.
Main Methods:
- Theoretical investigation of light propagation through PRS.
- Analysis of polarization trajectories.
- Examination of spin angular momentum dynamics within the PRS structure.
Main Results:
- Periodically rocking superlattices exhibit unusual polarization evolution, distinct from birefringent crystals.
- Remarkable and complex polarization trajectories were observed.
- Spin angular momentum (SAM) was found to oscillate within the PRS.
- The findings highlight unique light-matter interactions in PRS.
Conclusions:
- Periodically rocking superlattices present novel phenomena in polarization and SAM evolution.
- These unusual properties may enable new methods for polarization-state and optical SAM control.
- The study opens avenues for advanced optical device development.
