Background:

Global care practices and understanding are evolving.
Population changes, including aging and chronic conditions, create new care demands.
Societal shifts are redefining care beyond the family unit.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify global changes in care practice and understanding.
To analyze the impact of population changes on caregivers.
To explore the implications for family and professional caregivers within nursing.

Main Methods:

An integrative literature review was conducted.
284 papers were identified using keywords: care, caregivers, and Nursing.
41 papers published between 2005 and 2010 were selected for analysis.

Main Results:

A care transition model is reconfigured by increased demands from chronic conditions and population aging.
Caregiving responsibilities are extending beyond the family to become a shared social responsibility.
The findings highlight the central role of care in nursing.

Conclusions:

The evolving landscape of care necessitates a reevaluation of professional care development in nursing.
Understanding these shifts is crucial for adapting to new care demands.
Nursing must evolve to address the complexities of modern caregiving.
