The annual Nephrology Quiz and Questionnaire (NQQ) challenges participants on kidney disease topics. In 2010, audience members surprisingly scored better than program directors on these expert-prepared questions.
Area of Science:
- Nephrology
- Medical Education
Background:
- The American Society of Nephrology's annual meeting features a popular Nephrology Quiz and Questionnaire (NQQ) session.
- This session allows audience members to test their knowledge against nephrology training program directors using case-oriented questions.
Observation:
- The 2010 NQQ covered transplantation, fluid/electrolyte disorders, end-stage renal disease/dialysis, and glomerular disorders.
- Expert-prepared questions were presented, and audience responses were compared in real-time to those of program directors.
Findings:
- The 2010 NQQ was particularly challenging.
- For the first time, the audience achieved a higher overall correct answer score than the program directors, albeit by a narrow margin.
Implications:
- The NQQ serves as a valuable educational tool, assessing and reinforcing knowledge in key nephrology areas.
- Recapitulating the NQQ session in publications extends its educational reach to a wider audience of nephrologists.
