Purpose:
To study the effect of Class III intermaxillary functional orthopedic force on the change of pubescent rhesus monkey's maxilla and mandible.
Methods:
Six pubescent rhesus monkeys were randomly divided into experimental (4 monkeys) and control (2 monkeys) groups. Monkeys in the experimental group wore TMA III while the control group did not. Cephalometric radiographs were taken and analyzed before and after treatment. The distance between two relative marks of Hg-Ag alloy was measured.
Results:
Compared with the control group, cephalometric results showed that the maxillary length increased, but the mandibular length changed little in the experimental group.
Conclusion:
Class III orthopedic force could accelerate the growth of maxilla and inhibit the development of mandible.
