Drugs for Treatment of Constipation-Predominant IBS

Pharmacological therapies for IBS-C are designed to alleviate abdominal discomfort and enhance bowel function. Efficacy of Fu's Subcutaneous Needling on Sciatic Nerve Pain: Behavioral and Electrophysiological Changes in a Chronic Constriction Injury Rat Model

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) for treating slow transit constipation.
  • To assess the impact of PTNS on constipation severity, quality of life, and bowel function.

  • A study involving 18 patients with slow transit constipation who had previously failed biofeedback therapy.
  • Patients received 12 sessions of 30-minute percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation.
  • Outcomes measured included Wexner constipation score, colonic transit time, bowel diary, and Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life (PAC-QOL).
