We developed a high-resolution genotyping method for Streptococcus pyogenes (group A Streptococcus, GAS) using multiple-locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA). This MLVA scheme effectively differentiates GAS strains, even those with identical typing results from other methods.
