Spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 (SCA6) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by CAG repeat expansions in the CACNA1A gene. Research suggests age-dependent accumulation of toxic polyglutamine proteins drives Purkinje cell degeneration in SCA6.
