Multiple benign choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs), rare central nervous system tumors, were found in unusual locations in two adult cases. These findings include the first reported instances of CPPs in Meckel's cave and the frontotemporal region.

Area of Science:

  • Neuro-oncology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are rare central nervous system tumors typically found in the ventricular system.
  • CPPs are usually solitary, with spinal drop metastases being the most common form of multiplicity.

Observation:

  • Two exceptional adult cases of multiple benign CPPs are presented.
  • Tumors occurred in both intra- and extraventricular locations, including the fourth ventricle, Meckel's cave, cerebellopontine angle, and frontotemporal region.

Findings:

  • These cases represent the first reported instances of multiple choroid plexus papillomas involving Meckel's cave.
  • The study also documents the first intraparenchymal CPPs in the frontotemporal region.

Implications:

  • This report expands the known clinical spectrum and anatomical distribution of choroid plexus papillomas.
  • Highlights the importance of considering multiple CPPs in atypical locations during diagnosis and surgical planning.
