Trends such as demographics, optometric participation in third party plans, and expanding scope of optometric practice exert collective influence in this area of clinical care. Special skills and techniques are needed when caring for these patients, and private practitioners need to integrate newly available information and instrumentation with their existing clinical skills in order to provide optimal care.
