Abstract:
The minimally invasive approach has become the preferred technique for many pediatric operations. Advances in instrumentation and equipment have allowed for the introduction of a new type of minimally invasive surgery: single-site umbilical laparoscopic surgery (SSULS). The ultimate goal of SSULS is to leave the patient with no visible scar. In this article, we describe an array of instruments and equipment that are used for SSULS and discuss some of the related controversies of SSULS in children.
