Progressive macular hypomelanosis (PMH) presents as asymptomatic, hypopigmented macules. This study suggests PMH may be underdiagnosed in adolescents, with diagnosis delays common.

  • The majority (10/12) were female, with a mean age of 16.6 years.

Findings:

  • The average delay between symptom onset and diagnosis was 15 months.
  • This indicates a potential underdiagnosis of PMH.

Implications:

  • Increased awareness may improve early diagnosis of PMH.
  • Further research into the etiology of PMH is warranted.
