Background:

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a challenging cancer with a poor prognosis.
Raltitrexed is a targeted cytotoxic agent inhibiting thymidylate synthase.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy and safety of raltitrexed in combination with cisplatin for MPM treatment.
To assess the cost-effectiveness of this combination therapy.

Main Methods:

Phase III randomized controlled trial comparing raltitrexed plus cisplatin versus cisplatin alone.
Health-related quality of life and cost-effectiveness analyses were conducted.

Main Results:

The combination of raltitrexed and cisplatin significantly improved overall survival in MPM patients compared to cisplatin alone.
No detrimental effect on health-related quality of life was observed.
