Summary

Renal interstitial fibroblasts promote fibrosis by shifting the T helper 1 (Th1)/T helper 2 (Th2) balance towards Th2 cells. This shift involves increased Th2 cell differentiation and apoptosis of Th1 cells, mediated by fibroblast-derived galectin-9.
