Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Otolaryngology
  • Medical Genetics

Context:

  • Prominent ear deformity, an autosomal dominant condition, affects approximately 5% of the population.
  • This condition often leads to psychological distress in school-aged children.
  • Etiologies include poor antihelix development and conchal bowl overdevelopment.

Purpose:

  • To describe an anterior otoplasty technique for prominent ear correction.
  • To detail the surgical steps involving cartilage excision and subdermal sutures for antihelix formation.
  • To achieve optimal correction of the conchal bowl ridge.

Summary:

  • The anterior otoplasty technique provides a direct approach for prominent ear correction.
  • It involves creating the anti-helical fold via cartilage excision and subdermal sutures.
