Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize the symptoms that immediately precede eclamptic seizures.
  • To determine the frequency of prodromal symptoms in women with eclampsia.

  • Prospective observational study conducted in a single center in Tanzania.
  • Inclusion of all women admitted with eclamptic seizures over a one-year period.
  • Standardized questioning regarding pre-seizure symptoms during admission.

Main Results:

  • Eclampsia occurred in 1.4% of deliveries (46 cases).
  • Headache (80%) and visual disturbances (45%) were the most common neurologic prodrome symptoms.
