  • Dynamic balance was assessed using the Biodex Stability System at multiple time points; lower limb kinematics of FW and BW were compared post-training.
  • Main Results:

    • The experimental group showed significantly better balance than the control group after 8 weeks (P < 0.01) and 12 weeks (P < 0.05) of BW training.
    • No significant differences in gait kinematics between FW and BW were observed between groups post-training.
    • Backward walking demonstrated a longer stance phase and reduced stride length, speed, and lower limb/foot movement ranges compared to forward walking.

    Conclusions:

    • Backward walking training is an effective intervention for improving dynamic balance in school-aged boys.
    • BW training can be a valuable tool in pediatric physical therapy for enhancing motor skills and potentially reducing fall risk.
