Background:

  • Generalized multiple glomangiomas (glomuvenous malformations) represent a less common, widespread proliferation of glomus cells.
  • These lesions can present with extracutaneous involvement and often cause significant pain and cosmetic concerns.
  • Traditional management for solitary glomus tumors involves surgical excision, which may not be suitable for multifocal or generalized presentations.

Observation:

  • A 15-year-old male presented with enlarging and painful lesions on his right ankle, diagnosed as generalized multiple glomangiomas.
  • The patient's lesions exhibited significant functional impairment and cosmetic disfigurement.
  • Pain associated with the lesions was progressively increasing, impacting the patient's quality of life.

Findings:

  • Two treatment sessions utilizing a long-pulsed KTP 1064 nm laser were administered.
  • The laser therapy resulted in substantial improvement in the cosmetic appearance of the glomangiomas.
  • A significant decrease in pain was reported by the patient following the laser treatments.

Implications:

  • Long-pulsed KTP laser therapy demonstrates potential as an effective, non-invasive treatment modality for generalized multiple glomangiomas.
  • Laser intervention may offer significant benefits in improving both the functional impairment and cosmetic outcomes for patients with widespread glomuvenous malformations.
  • This approach provides a valuable alternative or adjunct to surgical management, particularly for extensive or multifocal disease.
