    Area of Science:

    • Oral medicine
    • Microbiology
    • Prosthodontics

    Background:

    • Denture stomatitis is a frequent oral complication in patients using dentures.
    • The exact causes of denture stomatitis remain unclear.
    • Candida albicans is frequently implicated in oral candidiasis associated with prostheses.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the prevalence of Candida albicans in patients with and without dentures.
    • To explore the relationship between C. albicans colonization and clinical parameters in denture wearers.
    • To contribute to a better understanding of denture stomatitis etiology.

    Main Methods:

    • A study involving ninety participants, with sixty denture wearers.
    • Collection of oral samples from various intraoral sites.
    • Microbiological analysis to culture and classify Candida albicans.
    • Correlation analysis between microbiological findings and patient clinical data.

    Main Results:

    • Candida albicans was identified in oral samples from participants.
    • Specific intraoral sites showed varying C. albicans colonization rates.
    • Preliminary associations were observed between C. albicans presence and certain clinical parameters in denture users.

    Conclusions:

    • Candida albicans is a significant factor in denture stomatitis.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the precise etiological role of C. albicans and associated clinical factors.
    • Understanding these relationships can inform improved management strategies for denture-related oral conditions.
