  • Included prospective studies comparing interventions or controls for acute hamstring injuries.
  • Assessed study eligibility, risk of bias, and quality using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database score.
  • Employed a best evidence synthesis approach.

Main Results:

  • Six studies were included in this systematic review.
  • Limited evidence supports stretching, agility, trunk stability exercises, intramuscular actovegin injections, and slump stretching for acute hamstring injuries.
  • Limited evidence suggests non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and sacroiliac joint manipulation have no effect.

Conclusions:

  • High-quality studies on acute hamstring injury treatment are scarce.
  • Current evidence for interventions like stretching, exercises, and injections is limited.
  • Further research with robust methodology (control groups, randomization, blinding) is necessary.
