  • A trend towards faster anxiety reduction postprocedure was observed in the music group (p=.065).
  • The music group reported significantly better coping (8.5±2.3 vs. 6.2±2.8; p<.05).
  • No significant differences in pain or patient satisfaction were found between groups.

Conclusions:

  • Music as an adjunct to local anesthesia shows a trend towards reduced postprocedure anxiety and improved coping.
  • Music does not appear to influence pain levels during surgical abortion.
  • High patient satisfaction can be maintained with or without music during the procedure.
