A rare case of an accessory lung, an intrapericardial extralobar sequestration, was diagnosed in a newborn. This unique lung tissue formation was successfully resected, offering insights into congenital anomalies.

Observation:

  • A fetal ultrasound revealed a large pericardial effusion.
  • Postnatal echocardiogram identified an intrapericardial solid mass adjacent to a normal heart.
  • The mass was surgically removed from a two-day-old infant.

Findings:

  • Microscopic examination confirmed the mass was normal lung tissue, consistent with an extralobar sequestration.
  • This represents the first reported case of an intrapericardial accessory lung with normal lung tissue.
