Summary

Laparoscopic surgery for splenic artery aneurysm is a safe and effective treatment option. This minimally invasive approach demonstrated no mortality or morbidity in a small patient cohort.

Background:

  • Laparoscopic surgery presents a minimally invasive alternative for SAA management.

Observation:

  • Three patients diagnosed with splenic artery aneurysm underwent laparoscopic surgery between August 2009 and March 2011.
  • All procedures were successfully completed laparoscopically, with no requirement for conversion to open surgery.
  • The average operative duration was 204.7 minutes, with an average blood loss of 30 mL.

Findings:

  • Laparoscopic splenic artery aneurysm repair resulted in no mortality or significant morbidity.
  • The procedure demonstrated favorable outcomes regarding operative time and intraoperative blood loss.
  • Successful laparoscopic management of splenic artery aneurysms was achieved in all cases.

Implications:

  • Laparoscopic surgery is a viable and safe approach for treating splenic artery aneurysms.
  • This technique offers a minimally invasive option with excellent short-term safety profiles.
  • Further research may support wider adoption of laparoscopic techniques for SAA.
