Combined lifestyle factors and cardiovascular disease mortality in Chinese men and women: the Singapore Chinese

Adopting more healthy lifestyle habits, including diet, exercise, and not smoking, significantly lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. This protective effect was observed across diverse health statuses in Chinese adults.

- Each individual lifestyle factor was independently linked to CVD mortality.
- A dose-response relationship was observed: more protective factors correlated with lower CVD mortality rates.
- Individuals with 5-6 protective factors had a 76% lower risk of CVD mortality compared to those with none.
Conclusions:
- Adherence to a greater number of protective lifestyle factors is associated with significantly reduced risk of overall CVD, coronary heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease mortality.
- These findings highlight the importance of comprehensive lifestyle modification for cardiovascular health in Chinese populations.
