  • The superficial peroneal nerve typically innervates the dorsum of the foot, while the deep peroneal nerve supplies the first interdigital cleft.

Observation:

  • A rare case was identified during a cadaver dissection of a 52-year-old male.
  • The superficial peroneal nerve exclusively provided motor innervation to the peroneus longus and brevis muscles.

Findings:

  • The deep peroneal nerve supplied cutaneous innervation to the medial three and a half toes.
  • The sural nerve innervated the lateral one and a half toes.
  • The deep peroneal nerve bifurcated in the lower leg into medial and lateral branches, supplying the tibialis anterior and toeS respectively.

Implications:

  • Understanding such nerve variations is crucial for surgeons to interpret atypical pain presentations.
  • This knowledge aids in accurate diagnosis and treatment of neuropathies in the lower limb.
