Overview
Proofreading01:31

Proofreading

Synthesis of new DNA molecules is carried out by the enzyme DNA polymerase, which adds nucleotides on the daughter strand complementary to the template DNA strand. DNA polymerase has a higher affinity to add the correct base and ensures fidelity during DNA replication. Furthermore,  it exhibits proofreading activity during replication, using an exonuclease domain that cuts off incorrect nucleotides from the nascent DNA strand.
Errors During Replication are Corrected by the DNA Polymerase Enzyme
Free-falling Bodies: Introduction01:07

Free-falling Bodies: Introduction

All objects, neglecting air resistance, fall with the same acceleration towards the Earth's center due to the force exerted by the Earth's gravity. This experimentally determined fact is unexpected because we are so accustomed to the effects of air resistance and friction that we expect light objects to fall slower than heavier ones. People believed that a heavier object had a greater acceleration when falling until Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) proved otherwise. We now know this is not the case.
Introduction to force01:25

Introduction to force

Consider water flowing from a nozzle to a turbine vane. As the water hits the turbine vane, it exerts a force that causes it to move along the flow of direction. Force is an impact that changes an object's motion, shape, or orientation. Forces can be caused by physical contact, such as a push or pull, or through non-contact interactions, such as magnetic or gravitational forces. Force is a vector quantity with both magnitude and direction, and is measured in newtons (N) in the SI unit system.
Journal Bearings01:23

Journal Bearings

Journal bearings are mechanical components that support and provide lateral stability to rotating shafts and axles. They are crucial in reducing friction, wear, and vibration in machinery such as engines, turbines, and pumps. The principle behind journal bearings is forming a thin lubricant film between the bearing surface and the rotating shaft, which minimizes direct contact and reduces frictional forces.
To better understand the concept of journal bearings, consider a rope winch with dry or...
Professional Values01:29

Professional Values

Nurses are responsible for caring for patients during birth, death, illness, and healing. Professional values guide the decisions and actions that nurses make in their careers. If nurses know the decisions and actions to take, providing patients with exceptional care is possible.
The values that are the foundation of the nursing profession are altruism, autonomy, human dignity, and social justice.
First, altruism refers to the concern for the welfare and well-being of others without personal...

Area of Science:

  • Psychotherapy Research
  • Clinical Psychology Training
  • Professional Development in Mental Health

Background:

  • A significant knowledge gap exists regarding the effectiveness of psychotherapy training methods.
  • While psychotherapy is known to be effective, the specific training elements contributing to this efficacy are not well understood.
  • Existing research on psychotherapy training is limited, mirroring the status of broader psychotherapy research.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To address the dearth of research on psychotherapy training by offering diverse perspectives.
  • To provide empirical knowledge, theory, and clinical experience on effective psychotherapy training elements.
  • To establish directives for future research to build a framework for understanding and improving training programs.

Main Methods:

  • The series is structured around a panel discussion from the 2006 North American Society of Psychotherapy Research conference.
  • Each paper in the series is divided into two parts: elements of training programs and future research directions.
  • The series synthesizes empirical knowledge, theoretical perspectives, and clinical experience from various contributors.

Main Results:

  • The series identifies a critical need for more research into effective psychotherapy training.
  • It highlights the importance of understanding both effective and ineffective components of training programs.
  • The authors emphasize that improved training can lead to better psychotherapist development and ultimately enhance treatment outcomes.

Conclusions:

  • There is a consensus among the authors that more research is needed to understand and improve psychotherapy training.
  • The series aims to stimulate active pursuit of better training methodologies and dedicated research efforts.
  • Developing effective psychotherapists requires a deeper understanding and more rigorous investigation of training processes.
