Mast cells trigger epithelial barrier dysfunction, bacterial translocation and postoperative ileus in a mouse model

Mast cells contribute to postoperative ileus (POI) by causing intestinal barrier dysfunction after abdominal surgery. Targeting mast cells may help prevent or treat POI.
