Non-IgA mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis: a benign entity?

Non-IgA mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis often causes nephrotic syndrome, with most patients responding to steroids. However, some develop steroid-dependent disease or resistance, leading to chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease.

- Nephrotic syndrome occurred in 89.4% of patients.
- 80% of those with nephrotic syndrome were steroid-sensitive with infrequent relapses.
- Steroid resistance (17.6%) and steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome (15.6%) were observed.
- 13 patients developed chronic kidney disease (CKD), with 3 progressing to end-stage renal disease.
Conclusions:
- Non-IgA mesangioproliferative glomerulonephritis is not a benign condition.
- The disease is associated with significant morbidity and treatment-related complications.
