Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Behavioral Science
- Addiction Research
Background:
- Online gambling prevalence and associated behaviors require investigation.
- Understanding demographic and behavioral differences between online and offline gamblers is crucial.
Purpose of the Study:

- To assess if online gambling is linked to higher population-level risky behaviors than offline gambling.
Main Methods:
- Population-based survey in Québec, 2009, with 8,456 offline and 111 online gamblers.
- Sample representative of the adult general population.
Main Results:
- Online gambling is disproportionately used by men, young adults, and students.
- Online gamblers show overrepresentation of poker players and more excessive gaming behaviors.
- Online gamblers report higher rates of co-occurring risky behaviors, including alcohol and cannabis use.
