Summary

A rare malignant bone-forming sarcoma occurred in soft tissue, not attached to bone. This osteoid-producing tumor recurred twice, becoming less differentiated with each recurrence.

Background:

  • Malignant bone-forming sarcomas, such as osteosarcoma, typically arise from bone.
  • Soft tissue sarcomas are a diverse group of malignant tumors originating in connective tissues.

Observation:

  • A unique case of a malignant bone-forming sarcoma presenting in the soft tissue, without bony attachment, over the right scapula.
  • Histological examination revealed anaplastic spindle cells producing osteoid.

Findings:

  • The tumor demonstrated aggressive behavior with two recurrences after initial diagnosis.
  • Recurrent tumors showed decreased osteoid production and reduced histological differentiation compared to the primary tumor.
