This study introduces the simultaneous orthogonal rotations angle (SORA) vector for gyroscope data. SORA simplifies calculating angular orientation from simultaneous rotations, avoiding complex iterative methods.
Area of Science:
- Engineering
- Physics
- Robotics
Background:
- 3D gyroscopes measure angular velocities for orientation estimation.
- Simultaneous rotations are non-commutative and cannot be treated sequentially.
- Existing methods often rely on iterative approximations.
Purpose of the Study:
- To derive a single rotation equivalent to three simultaneous rotations around orthogonal axes.
- To introduce the simultaneous orthogonal rotations angle (SORA) vector.
- To provide a simplified method for real-time angular orientation calculation.
Main Methods:
- Analytic derivation of the equivalent single rotation axis and angle.
- Definition of the SORA vector based on simultaneous rotation angles.
- Experimental validation of the SORA concept.
Main Results:
- The SORA vector's orientation and magnitude directly represent the equivalent single rotation axis and angle.
- Angular orientation can be calculated in a single step using SORA.
- Test measurements confirmed the validity and simplicity of the SORA concept.
Conclusions:
- SORA offers a direct and simplified method for angular orientation calculation.
- It is well-suited for real-time applications using gyroscope data.
- SORA provides a novel notation for general angular orientation representation.
