Background:

  • Visually evoked responses (VER) reflect neural processing of visual information.
  • Binocular summation is a known phenomenon where combined input from both eyes yields a stronger response than either eye alone.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To quantify the enhancement in VER amplitude and subjective visual acuity when using binocular versus monocular vision.
  • To investigate the relationship between VER amplitude enhancement and visual acuity improvement.

Main Methods:

  • Recorded monocular and binocular transient VERs in 50 adult subjects.
  • Utilized a pattern reversal stimulus with a 5.5-minute arc check size.
  • Measured peak-to-trough VER amplitude and compared it with subjective visual acuity (Landolt C).
