Resecting retro-orbicularis oculus fat (ROOF) during blepharoplasty effectively reduces lateral upper orbital heaviness. While generally safe, potential side effects include temporary numbness and dry eye.

Background:

  • Aesthetic blepharoplasty aims to rejuvenate the eye area.
  • Excess fat in the lateral upper orbit can cause heaviness and bulkiness.

Observation:

  • Sixty-three patients underwent blepharoplasty with retro-orbicularis oculus fat (ROOF) resection.
  • The procedure targeted heaviness and bulkiness in the lateral upper orbital region.

Findings:

  • ROOF resection consistently softened and flattened the lateral upper orbital area.
  • Minor complications included transient dry eye (2 patients) and temporary numbness in the supraorbital/brow region (20% and all patients, respectively).
  • No significant orbicularis oculi or corrugator muscle paralysis occurred.
