Summary

The septal body enlarges on the side opposite nasal septal deviation, similar to inferior turbinate hypertrophy. This septal body hypertrophy may contribute to nasal obstruction and affect airflow.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the size of the septal body with the laterality of septal deviation.
  • To determine if septal body prominence correlates with the side of septal deviation.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of 100 sinus computerized tomography (CT) scans.
  • Assessment of septal deviation degree, septal body size, and their correlation.
  • Measurements included septal body width and thickness differences.

Main Results:

  • The mean septal body width was 9.3 mm.
  • In 99% of cases, the septal body was larger on the side opposite the septal deviation (p < 0.05).
