    Summary

Mixed cryoglobulinemia (CGE) can cause severe kidney problems, including rapidly worsening nephritis and acute kidney failure. This study reviews reported CGE cases and presents three new case reports highlighting these renal complications.

    Area of Science:

    • Nephrology
    • Rheumatology
    • Internal Medicine

    Background:

    • Mixed cryoglobulinemia (CGE) is a systemic vasculitis associated with infections and lymphoproliferative disorders.
    • Renal involvement is a common and serious complication of CGE, significantly impacting patient prognosis.

    Observation:

    • The clinical presentation of renal impairment in CGE is often characterized by rapidly progressive nephritis.
    • Episodes of acute renal failure are a major clinical manifestation in affected individuals.

    Findings:

    • This study analyzes reported data on renal impairment in CGE.
    • Three new case reports of CGE with significant renal involvement are presented.
    • The findings underscore the critical role of kidney function monitoring in CGE patients.

    Implications:

    • Early recognition and management of renal complications in CGE are crucial for improving outcomes.
    • Understanding the spectrum of renal disease in CGE can guide therapeutic strategies.
    • Further research into the pathogenesis of CGE-associated nephropathy is warranted.
