Summary

Wide-angle, non-mydriatic fundus photography effectively screens for glaucoma by detecting optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer abnormalities. This method identified new glaucoma cases missed by tonometry alone.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the suitability of wide-angle, black-and-white fundus photographs for glaucoma screening.
  • To assess the efficacy of non-mydriatic retinal cameras in identifying glaucoma-related abnormalities.

Main Methods:

  • 183 first-degree relatives of glaucoma patients underwent non-mydriatic fundus photography.
  • Photographs were analyzed by an ophthalmologist for optic disc and retinal nerve fiber layer abnormalities.
  • Photography success rate was 92%.
