Examination of the relationship between economic conditions and medical bill payment issues.

Medical bill problems have stabilized but remain at a significantly elevated level compared to pre-recessionary periods.
Reduced healthcare access and utilization may be a contributing factor to the stable rates.
Severe financial distress, including potential bankruptcy, is a continued consequence for many families facing medical debt.
