Background:

  • Mechanical thrombectomy is emerging as a potential treatment for acute ischemic stroke.
  • The Trevo Retriever (TR) with Stentriever technology is a device used in mechanical thrombectomy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the Trevo Retriever for revascularization in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
  • To assess clinical, radiological, and functional outcomes following TR-assisted thrombectomy.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective evaluation of 13 patients with anterior circulation occlusions.
  • Thrombectomy performed using TR, alone or with intra-arterial thrombolysis, within 8 hours of symptom onset.
  • Successful revascularization defined as thrombolysis in cerebral ischemia (TICI) grade 2a-3; good outcome as modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score ≤ 2.

Main Results:

  • Revascularization was achieved in 10 of 13 patients (77%).
  • Mean time from groin puncture to recanalization was 95 ± 31 minutes.
  • Four patients (30%) achieved functional independence (mRS ≤ 2), while four (30%) died within 90 days. No significant intra-procedural complications were reported.

Conclusions:

  • Early clinical experience indicates that the Trevo Retriever facilitates safe and effective revascularization in select acute ischemic stroke patients.
  • The TR device demonstrates potential as a therapeutic option for improving reperfusion in acute stroke cases.
