Background:

  • Idiopathic tinnitus can present with unusual triggers.
  • Synchronous tinnitus with eye closure is a rare phenomenon.

Observation:

  • Two patients reported intermittent tinnitus coinciding with eye closure or blinking.
  • One patient exhibited inward tympanic membrane movement during eye closure.
  • No facial nerve palsy or myoclonus was present.

Findings:

  • Both patients showed decreased compliance in impedance audiometry during eye closure.
  • Tinnitus was attributed to muscular tinnitus caused by stapedial muscle contraction.

Implications:

  • This case report highlights a rare form of muscular tinnitus.
  • Impedance audiometry compliance changes are key for diagnosing stapedial muscular tinnitus.
  • Further research into eye-closure-induced tinnitus is warranted.
