Summary

Engaging in mentally stimulating activities and maintaining low loneliness levels are key to preserving cognitive function in older adults. Moderate alcohol consumption and more education also support cognitive health.

  • A 2-year prospective study involving 476 cognitively healthy community-dwelling elders (aged 60-92) in Hong Kong.
  • Participants completed cognitive tests and questionnaires assessing loneliness and leisure activities.

  • Higher participation in cognitive activities and lower levels of loneliness correlated with better cognitive performance.
