Background:

  • End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) often experience systemic health complications.
  • Oral health issues are frequently observed in ESRD patients, but the specific impact of HD duration is not fully elucidated.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the relationship between the duration of hemodialysis treatment and oral health status.
  • To assess periodontal parameters and the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) index in relation to time on HD.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional study involving 94 patients undergoing hemodialysis.
  • Patients were categorized into two groups based on HD duration: less than 36 months (Group L) and more than 37 months (Group M).
  • Oral examinations recorded demographic data, periodontal parameters (probing depth, clinical attachment loss), and DMFT index by a calibrated examiner.
