Background:

  • Erectile dysfunction (ED) is prevalent in patients with certain skin conditions.
  • No prior studies investigated the link between ED and atopic dermatitis (AD).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between ED and prior AD.
  • This population-based, case-control study compared the prevalence of AD in ED patients versus controls.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized Taiwan National Health Insurance administrative claims data.
  • Identified 3,997 ED cases and 19,985 controls.
  • Employed conditional logistic regression to assess the odds ratio (OR) for prior AD.

Main Results:

  • 10.6% of ED cases had prior AD compared to 6.7% of controls (P<0.001).
  • ED patients demonstrated a significantly higher likelihood of prior AD (OR=1.60, 95% CI=1.42-1.80, P<0.001).
  • Adjusted for multiple demographic and clinical factors.

Conclusions:

  • A significant association exists between ED and prior AD.
  • Clinicians should be vigilant for sexual health concerns in AD patients.
